TABBASH! (SAM TELFORD)£6.00 GBP
'TABBASH!' is a selection of poems by Sam Telford, taken from the first five years of the poet's work. From over a thousand poems twenty four were selected and re-edited for this publication by William Farquhar.
The zine is split into four categories which are untitled in the book but on the original manuscript were titled 'CITY / GENERATIONAL', 'INTERIORS / INTER-RELATIONSHIPS', 'RURAL COLLOQUIAL' and 'COASTAL / SELF'. Throughout the poems many Gateshead, Jarrow, Hebburn and Newcastle place names are used and in a way, these can be used to map out the poets journey. Sam Telford was born in Gateshead but throughout his teenage years trekked all over the local area taking notes and observations for his poems. His personal experiences are threaded throughout. The poems are formatted modestly and the lines are sharp, rhythmic and minimalist.
The cover and divider illustrations were created by the poet and artist Edmund Francis English, a long time friend and collaborator of Sam Telford. The illustrations are in keeping with the style used for the poetry publication Greyscale Poetry Zine (A Newcastle based poetry zine created by Sam Telford and Edmund English that ran for five issues). The cover of the fourth issue 'BEAT' has been reprinted as a limited edition t-shirt in tandem with this zine.
